A seemingly minor knee injury has turned into a major frustration for Saints linebacker James Allen.

The fourth-year veteran has barely practiced since spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee July 29. He returned to the field twice last week, but he re-injured the knee, this time on the outside.
In the spotlight: Free safety.

Starter Dwight Smith should be an upgrade over Tebucky Jones. He's versatile and a better fit for coordinator Rick Venturi's scheme. Rookie Jason Bullocks has come on after a slow start to camp. He's getting more comfortable each day. He'll get playing time in the dime package. Gleason is primarily a special teamer, but his knowledge of the defense makes him a valuable reserve.
Saints wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim's hamstring injury is not considered serious, but it does provide an opportunity to young receivers Devery Henderson and Talman Gardner.
